RENACER (Rebirth)
For 37 years, I struggled with life (I am 40 now), grappling with my condition and my body, searching for acceptance in places and groups where I ultimately did not belong, nor will I ever belong.
I battled with my fears, harsh words, and insults, and the ticking clocks of death that rushed toward me. I built walls, wore masks, and donned armor to shield myself from the world. In the end, all I did was push away those who truly wanted to stay by my side.
When I saw myself walking with what little I had left through valleys of solitude, I realized I owed nothing to anyone. I didn’t owe anyone an explanation and had nothing to lose. At that moment, I was reborn.
From Waldo, meaning “Bold Spirit,” I transitioned to calling myself Renatto, meaning “the one who has come back to life.” I began to inhabit this body, and with nothing to lose, I started winning repeatedly. Stripped of my egos, I ventured into places I had never been before, much like living in a mobile home, carrying only my camera and my body.
The pandemic confined many to their homes, silenced the streets, and desolated the world, but for me, it brought new life.
Here is my raw, unfiltered truth—no makeup, social media beauty filters, or euphemisms. I offer it to those who wish to see beyond the visible.
