GRÁVIDA (GRAVID)

Gravid means “meaningful, full of things.”

For me, it is a vital work—a story of experience and personal phototherapy in which I use self-referential images and self-portraits to express the phases of my desire and frustration in the pursuit of motherhood.

Apart from personal catharsis, “Grávida” aims to delve into the process and different phases of mourning resulting from a circumstance often experienced in silence and regarded as a taboo and personal failure. This experience is more common than it appears and is also a direct consequence of the type of society we inhabit.

What I show is our particular journey along a path that has led us to deconstruct how we were educated, the roles we have had to choose, and the ones we would have liked to play. Mourning in the face of disappointment and restlessness is just the beginning of a learning process that places the body, health, and sexuality at the center of our lives, allowing us to rediscover intimacy and feel life according to the rhythms of nature.

This visual essay is thus centered on duality and contrasts, exploring the polarities of full-empty, natural-artificial, slow-fast, accumulation-nutrition, and yin-yang.
