“Paint Your Mind” is the name of one of the exercises we conducted last November at ASPRONA, the Valencian Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities, as part of the Dins Project: “Photography Workshop as an Empowerment Tool for Social Inclusion.”
Inspired by the project of the artist Doma, we aim to use art to foster understanding, helping people discover who they are and how they feel.
The artist points out that photographing people helps to understand them, but this approach only captures their external reality.
How could I photograph the mind and create a portrait of what goes on inside people’s heads?
The only way to achieve this was by inviting people to both observe and create their portraits. Think about it. If you could see your mind, what would it look like?
The process involves printing the portrait on a sheet of paper, overlaying it with a transparent acetate sheet, and then painting it with permanent markers and acrylic paints. In this way, your mind is expressed through drawings, words, and messages that resonate in the present moment and reflect your life. We are excited to share the results with you in this interactive exhibition.
We believe that artistic education fosters personal and social transformation. In this context, photography can be a powerful catalyst for social change.
