An auditory and visual experience designed to train your visual literacy and photographic expression through the practice of self-portraiture.
Workshop taught in English
Start: July 23, 2025.
8th edition.
Photography changes the way we see the world, how we feel, and how we perceive reality by fostering deep processes of self-knowledge. Knowing who we are—and what we can do with who we are—is essential to achieving happiness.
Self-portraits are a powerful tool for self-knowledge, offering an opportunity to reveal our bodies privately or share the experience with others. They also help us express emotion and convey our innermost essence. The artist and the model are one and the same. In a self-portrait, every element is intentional—nothing is merely aesthetic. A self-portrait is a map of our inner world: a testimony to who we are and how we choose to present ourselves to the world.
In the SELF-PORTRAIT workshop, you will explore the potential of photography as a tool for self-knowledge, personal expression, and self-development, supported by a
theoretical foundation rooted in psychology and the creative processes of contemporary art.
You’ll study visual culture and discover artists who have used their bodies, fears, and life experiences to create powerful, transformative work. You’ll learn to express yourself through images and create meaningful photographs as part of your intimate and personal process.
The exercises will guide you and help direct your gaze toward what you’re about to explore.
Through your own experience, you’ll discover that your photographs can spark personal development and creative processes that are more authentic and aligned with who you are.
There is no fixed schedule. Once you have access to the content, you’re free to enjoy the experience at your own pace. From July 23 to August 25, you’ll receive new material every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—including audio lessons, inspiring artists, photography prompts, and recommended music—for a total of 15 sessions. Each session takes 10 to 15 minutes to listen to, read, and watch. You decide when to engage with the content and when to create the suggested images.
The sessions are titled: I Am Movement, I Am Body, I Am Skin, I Am Emotion, I Am Words, I Am Joy, I Am Strength, I Am Pain, I Am Mystery, I Am Tribe, I Am Gaze, I Am What I Imagine, I Am Shadow and Reflection, I Am Time, and I Am Rarity.
I invite you to begin this experience with an open and curious mind. Look at yourself without judgment or expectation, without rushing to accept or reject anything. Let each message sink in, and enjoy the journey through your emotions, mysteries, strength, and life—getting to know yourself as if you were meeting for the very first time.

What People Have to Say About this Workshop
I loved it all! The invitations for self-observation, engaging with photography, discovering artists, exploring musical landscapes, and participating in a format that encourages the freedom to exhibit and share experiences on Instagram. And, above all, the introspective journey you have guided us through with great affection. I really enjoyed photography as a therapeutic and artistic tool. I would highly recommend this experience. I would love to repeat it!
I was impressed by the methodology used in the teaching-learning process. Incorporating psychology into the activities added significant value, facilitating my self-reflection, self-knowledge, and decision-making. Thank you very much for such a beautiful and unforgettable experience. I look forward to participating in another one of your courses. Thank you, Amparo and the ANDANA team, for your enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment.
The experience with the Andanafoto workshops brings joy. When you can no longer find answers on the outside, you are “forced” to change your focus, and there it is! Inside, intimately, where you don’t look because you don’t remember to, because you are too busy with other things, because you are terrified to look there, because you are ashamed, you don’t like it, because it hurts, because you don’t even think about looking there. And you realize there is much more than you think in your surroundings, everyday life, body, mind, and spirit. And, by the way, there’s beauty. And, above all, you have fun. I will stay with Andanafoto for a while longer. Thank you.
“I am what I don’t imagine” and “I am time” have been revealing to me. I experienced some resistance to doing them. I didn’t really feel like it. I couldn’t find the right image. Confronting the emotions the exercise stirred up helped me become aware of the “dark” parts I didn’t want to see. An adventure into myself through self-portraiture. A space to get to know myself better, express myself, and show myself as I am. A deep journey. The workshop is delightful.
My Chi-kung training website is on hold because I didn’t want to put photos of me looking at the camera. I didn’t want to publish videos and so on. In short, I didn’t want to show myself. And I did it as an exercise, but I didn’t think about how much it would affect me, how much I would play, or how much I would discover. For me, one of the most fascinating things about teaching is witnessing that unique moment when the other is surprised and “notices” or discovers things they haven’t seen before. You made me jump from surprise to surprise!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you infinitely for guiding me on this incredible transformative journey and helping me realize the profound connection my heart shares with the art of photography—an awareness I had never experienced until now. Thank you very much!!! See you in the next one… Did you think I was going to miss it?
It’s been a long time since I took a workshop that was agile, dynamic, interesting, profound, and creative at the same time! The prompts sparked a lot of interest and inspiration, motivating me to keep contemplating new photographic projects. I was also very interested in the path of self-exploration we were taking… Again, congratulations and thanks!
It was an intense yet profoundly beautiful experience. I felt very special. It has stirred a lot within me and altered my self-perception. I surprised myself in certain situations I didn’t expect to experience. I laughed, cried, and felt excited… I never felt alone, which was very nice. You’re great!!! The authors you always use as inspiration are very interesting and appropriate for the exercise. This project has just begun for me. I want to say thank you to Amparo and Javier because you are great and very professional. I would do it all over again tomorrow!!!
I loved it. It has connected me closely with my creativity, occasionally catching me by surprise. Without having a clue about photography, I have taken some amazing shots. I’m recommending it to my people.
Each activity has been an experiment and a self-discovery process. It encourages you to explore, observe details about yourself, and reflect. I highly recommend it.
The experience was wonderful; I never want it to end. It helped me listen to myself and have moments exclusively for myself throughout the day. It’s like a form of meditation or a parallel universe of continuous and special learning. It has stirred me up in places within me I didn’t know I had, and it has been a source of motivation for me during the pandemic. It’s also amazing to see the work of different people on Instagram. Congratulations on your work. You are great.
I am super happy to have found this course. I thought it was by chance, but now I realize I was meant to find it. I’m looking forward to more! It went by quickly, and now I even think it was short. Thank you very much for everything!
The course was definitely worth it. I loved the dynamic, and it helped me reflect on certain topics. I also enjoyed taking the photos, which made my imagination fly.
The workshops are beautiful, and I will never tire of thanking you for everything you give us. They guide you with kindness and respect on the wonderful path of recognizing yourself and the astonishment of discovering yourself. Learning is invaluable. I am happy to have found you.
The experience came to me at the right time and was a good companion in another process of personal reconnection. It was a perfect tandem because it allowed me to capture many self-knowledge realizations and reflections in images. And I rediscovered tastes I had somewhat stored away: my dream of theater or my interest in photography and the visual. Each audio was a revealing opportunity to play and create. Thank you very much. And I hope to join another workshop soon. A huge hug from Chile 🙂
I found it extremely profound and wonderful because it is a fusion of photography, which is my passion, with getting to know myself and being able to express myself openly. Now, I know I can do it without limiting myself further. The paths are infinite. I have fallen more in love with photography; it means expression and creativity.
ANDANAfoto helped me discover more things about my personality that I didn’t know, such as that I have much more creativity than I thought and much more imagination than I believed. I enjoyed it a lot, so much that I easily found the time to do it, and I could let go. My shyness seems to be diminishing, or so I think. I had a very good experience and plan to repeat it now. Thanks for everything. And thank you very much for this beautiful and precious project. I highly recommend it to everyone. It’s the best photography course I’ve ever taken. THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

FAQs
How is this training different from PHOTOGRAPHY TO GET TO KNOW YOURSELF?
The training content in both workshops is unique and completely different.
In the Photography to Get to Know Yourself workshop, you’ll explore the potential of photography as a tool for self-knowledge, communication, and personal development, supported by a theoretical foundation rooted in psychology and the creative processes of contemporary art. You’ll create autobiographical images inspired by your life, thoughts, emotions, memories, and sense of authenticity.
In Self-Portrait, the foundation and methodology are the same. However, the content focuses exclusively on self-portraiture, guided by the concept of “I Am,” as you explore the body and delve into everything you are intimately capable of being.
Both workshops include audio recordings, videos, images, and recommended music. You’ll also learn about artists who have worked with their bodies, fears, and life experiences.
Through your personal experience, you’ll discover that your photographs can initiate deeper, more authentic processes of growth, communication, and creation.
Is access to the course permanent?
Yes, the content is permanently available on the training platform. You can review it anytime, as many times as you like. Everyone learns at their own pace.
How can I share my experience?
You can find images and words as meeting points on Instagram. You will receive a Hashtag for this purpose. By following this Hashtag and the @andanafoto account, you will see everything shared by the other people participating in this experience. If you want to share any content, simply post it and tag us.
I don't have an SLR camera.
Don’t worry. You don’t need one. We all take most of our daily photographs with our cell phones nowadays. We create, share, and communicate with these devices, so using them in this experience is valid.
Will my exercises be supervised?
The process of self-discovery is an intimate and individual journey. The exercises will accompany you and make it easier to temporarily focus on what you will explore. Getting to know yourself through photography is a deeply personal journey that requires autobiographical exploration and a sacred space that belongs solely to you. You can interpret, project, and gain insight into your work within this realm. If someone else made this interpretation, the process would no longer be yours and have the meaning it should have.
Remember that the more explanations you receive, the less space you will leave for your creativity and emotions. It is very important that you experience a sense of freedom and release any judgments regarding the images you create. Remember that every creation, without exception, is perfect because it is yours and bears your unique perspective.
This is an engaging and transformative experience that fosters self-discovery and personal growth. ANDANAfoto does not assume responsibility for using this training for therapeutic purposes.
Does the workshop follow a fixed schedule?
The workshop does not follow a fixed schedule. Once you have access to the content, you can enjoy the experience at your own pace.
An email with the link to the training platform will be sent to you. You are free to decide when to access the sessions and complete the suggested exercises.
How much time do I need to dedicate to this every day?
You will need 10 to 15 minutes to listen, read, and watch the contents you will receive. This is the minimum time you will have to invest each day. However, you can spend all the time you need with the contents.
What are the payment methods?
You can pay using a credit or debit card, PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay. All transactions are securely processed with SSL encryption.
Can I pay in my currency?
The original price is in US dollars, as the training platform operates in USD. This ensures a smooth exchange process for other currencies.
